2:00pm- 4:00pm ( Newark 2119) Let’s talk about SLOs in Math 190, 191 and 151 Courses We will be discussing about the Student Learning Outcome in each of our basic skills math courses. SLO math questions will be handed out and asked to be given to students taking Math 190 & 191 at the beginning and at the end of the course in the spring semester 2012. Participants will be asked to share teaching strategies that have worked for them successfully in teaching basic skills math courses. Let’s talk about how we can help our students be successful in understanding basic mathematics and elementary algebra. Facilitated by Mylene Pelimiano and Anh Nguyen
I want to thank you for inviting me and welcoming me to the workshop today. It's nice to feel included in something that is important for both the student and the college. When I have an opportunity, I will devise any suggestions and send them to you.
Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to working with you.
Mylene, I am attaching my feedback on the SLOs. I only considered Math 190, because I have not taught the others at Ohlone. As I showed you at the meeting, the "SLOs" that I have been using in my syllabus are identical in content to the SLOs that you are proposing. Consequently, I have no constructive comments on the content of the SLOs. I only suggested changing the format a little to make the list of SLOs homogenous in format. I thought also that the 4th SLO for 190B was a near duplicate of the first one, and could be deleted. Thanks for an informative meeting. Terry
I have attached a sheet of my thoughts on SLO's in general and SLO's for each of the sheets you provided us at the workshop. After reviewing the sheets, I feel you have done an exceptional job. It s extremely difficult to come up with problems which provide someone with all of the necessary outcomes needed.
If you have any questions in regards to my thoughts, feel free to email me or call me.
